the cheapest wooden chest of drawers

In the catalogue in my mail

Is a yellow Hemnes piece

3 shelves

2 handles each

6 eyes silently judging me

for scratching its sides

we used to own

a giant mahogany one

all crooked legs and shiny polish

it got awfully scratched

on the way here

when they shook the train car

because they knew

that we were running

there’s an ache in my chest

of drawers

and i stuff it with socks and underwear

so it doesn’t rattle
